IMPORTANT NOTICE – HUNTING: During the moose hunting season, which runs from September 20 to October 26 this year, for the safety of users, we recommend wearing an orange vest, staying on the trail, and traveling between 9:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
Discover the secret microcosms of the Gouffre River with all your senses, one pedal stroke at a time.
An initiative of the municipality of Saint-Urbain and the newest section of the Trans Canada Trail in Charlevoix, the Haute du Gouffre trail now connects the Traversée de Charlevoix HQ to the base of Mont des Morios, near Lac Boudreault, a sort of crossroads in the woods administered by the Association du Territoire Libre | Pied-des-Monts sector. Running mainly along the upper reaches of the Gouffre River—hence its name—it only deviates from it a few times to bypass a small canyon, some cliffs, and, above all, a vast wetland known as the “dead waters”…aka the bayous of Charlevoix! The simple, rustic trail, some 30 kilometers long, invigorating and enchanting, was designed for shared use by XC mountain bikers and hikers—we even share some segments with salmon fishermen! This means that special care has been taken to ensure that there are no features that would enhance the experience of one type of user at the expense of another. What the trail may lack in jumps, banked turns, and fluidity, it more than makes up for in natural ambiance, living tableaux, and areas for contemplation!
Please note that the trail runs almost entirely through the Seigneurie de Beaupré, owned by the Séminaire de Québec, and that you are required to stay on the trail at all times. Failure to comply with this rule could result in the termination of the right-of-way agreement. Thank you for your cooperation!

A breakage on the trail? Let us know!
To ensure everyone’s safety and maintain the quality of your trail experience, please report any damage or abnormality. We will forward the information to the appropriate officials to facilitate a rapid response, although we are not trail managers.
