OUR MISSION
To promote and develop cycling in Charlevoix through the non-profit organization’s three arms, namely, the teaching of technical skills and virtues of sport socialization with Club Cycliste de Charlevoix, the production of major cycling events by its Grands-Rendez-Vous Cyclistes de Charlevoix (GRVCC), and, finally, trail development for the practice of off-road cycling with Sentiers Vélo Charlevoix.
OUR VISION
Get as many people as possible to ride their bikes and contribute to regional efforts aiming to ensure that Charlevoix is a true top-end cycling destination.
HISTORY
It all started with the determination of a group of persons from the region very very passionate about cycling. They thus joined forces to organize a first race part of the MTB Quebec Cup series in 1998. In December, 1999, they founded Club Cycliste de Charlevoix, a genuine non-profit organization (NPO). Board members quickly understood that producing cycling events is a great way to raise funds for the Club’s aims and activities, also giving its member riders the opportunity to enjoy racing on courses worthy of the most prestigious bike races, living memorable and formative experiences, and this, on home roads and trails. That’s how the multidisciplinary cycling events series Les Grands Rendez-Vous Cyclistes de Charlevoix (GRVCC) was born.
Throughout the years, the GRVCC morphed into a festival celebrating cycling in all of its avatars and for all levels of riders, being future stars in the international arena or mere beginners in want of tasting the untold pleasures of pushing on the pedals…in awe-inspiring settings! Thanks to the success, popularity, and reputation gained in past editions, year after year, Les Grands Rendez-Vous Cyclistes de Charlevoix (GRVCC) became an important element of the region’s tourism ecosystem by generating considerable economic benefits and attracting visitors in the Spring time, earlier in the season.
During an intense weekend of brainstorming that took place in the Fall of 2017, board members decided to devote time and efforts to develop a network of trails in the region and adopt Vélo Charlevoix as the new NPO’s name, a change they felt necessary in order to reflect the extent of all of the organization’s activities. It’s in 2022, finally, that the name change is completed, officially registered, and Club Cycliste de Charlevoix, Les Grands Rendez-Vous Cyclistes de Charlevoix (GRVCC) as well as Sentiers Vélo Charlevoix thus became the NPO’s 3 distinct sectors, fields of activity.
